2020 Has Brought A Lot Of Changes And Good Food Second Bar And Kitchen

This year has brought lots of changes, uncertainty, triumphs and defeats.


I've been coping with 2020 by immersing myself in work and fitness.


I've been a healthy eater all my life and have worked out on and off for years, but when the pandemic started in March, I decided to do something for myself, and to get in the best shape possible by hiring a personal trainer. 


I was referred to Angela at Godbody.me at the end of May, by an online friend who is a fitness model and has been training with Chris, Angela's partner, for a while. I saw  his photos and looked at their website and  I was sold.


Angela called me, and after speaking with her and letting her know what my goals were she designed a program tailored specifically for me. This program was so detailed that it took me about two weeks to read it and get ready to start it, all while I was in the middle of moving.  


The program included detailed information of what and how much to eat, how many times a day, what foods while taking into account how much protein, fats and carbs each meal had. She  reinforced a lot that I already knew about getting in shape, and taught me a lot more that I did not know, specially about nutrition.


My healthy eating was not so healthy after all, if I wanted  to focus on toning and building muscle, and here is where my journey started.

I began eating four to five meals a day and counting macros - protein, fats and carbs, and working out six days a week following her plan.

I am starting week 15 tomorrow and I am thrilled at the results I've gotten so far, and yes, I have photos to prove it and will be happy to share if you ask. Still a long way to go, but will get there in due time.


I'm a foodie, so the most fun I have  every week is going out to eat for my weekly cheat meal.

The last one was at the beautiful Second Bar + Kitchen at the Domain.

I met a friend and we sat outside. The menu has many options, some healthy and others not so much, but for my cheat meal, I'm allowed to eat anything and as much as I want, without overdoing it.

My friend and I opted for a couple of appetizers to share.


We ordered the Guacamole. This was exceptional! It was perfectly blended with cotija cheese, pepitas, cilantro, jalapeno and lime, and served with chipotle corn chips. Truly delightful and a must have.

The second plate was a cheese board, beautifully presented and served with fruit preserves and toasted Ciabatta bread. It had soft and hard cheeses and olives as a complement.

Second Bar + Kitchen has my vote as one of the best bars with delicious food in Austin. Treat yourself next time you are in the area.
